Northern Eclipse Help Reference

Northern Elite

What is it?
Northern Elite is a “lite” version of Northern Eclipse.  It has the same capabilities as Northern Eclipse except that it does not have the ability to perform area measurements using the Measure Objects command.  It exists for customers who do not need morphometric capabilities.  All the processing tools and acquisition capabilities are still available.

What about Camera support?

Northern Elite uses the same camera drivers as Eclipse so it can use all existing and future acquisition drivers.

Can I still run my applications and scripts?

All scripts and applications should work as long as the execution is not dependant on the Measure Objects command succeeding.  All attempts to call the Measure Objects function will return 0 objects and all object data commands will not return any data.  Some very complex applications can still run on Elite.  For example, the ION application, which makes density measurements, does not use the Measure Objects function.

How do I know if I have Eclipse or Elite?

Go to the Help Menu and select About.  The dialog will show you which version you have.

Can I upgrade a system to Eclipse if I currently have Elite?

Yes.  The cost for the upgrade is just the price difference between the two products.  The upgrade process has been streamlined for minimal disruption to existing systems.
