This function is used to associate text to an image. For image file formats, such as TIFF, the annotation is stored with the image data so you must save the image after annotating it. With other formats, Eclipse creates an annotation file with the same name as the image, but with an .ANN extension. In this case, the image should be saved before annotating it so that it knows where on the disk to save the associated annotation file.
For a multilayer image, each layer can be annotated separately as well as having a common image stack annotation. For single-layer images, you only get the option of annotating the current layer.
